American Rider Wins American Race

American Tejay Van Garderen won the Amgen Tour of California professional bicycle stage race. This will give him confidence as he gets ready to ride the Tour de France in just a few weeks.
It's great to see a rider demonstrate ability in climbing, sprinting, time trials, and the other aspects of road racing - and to do it without the need for performance enhancing substances.
Let's hope that this ugly chapter in professional cycling is behind us and that we can move on, cheering for the likes of Tejay to do well!

Four-Time For "Five-Time"

Jimmie Johnson, 5 time winner of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship Series (and all 5 consecutively), is known in the sport as "Five-Time." No one else has won more than three titles.

Last night, he gained another first. In the annual All-Star race at Charlotte, for a million dollar prize that only goes to the winner in a winner-take-all-format, Johnson won the race again. He won last year. He is only the second person to win 2 All-Star races back-to-back.

Last night's win was the fourth victory for him at the All-Star event - the only one to ever do this. Of the 12 All-Star races he has started, he has won one-third of them. Extremely impressive!

A Day Full Of Memories

Today was a day that offered many types of memories and activities.

It was Pole Day at Indy for the annual 500 mile memorial Day (actually Sunday) race - delayed at its start by rain.

It was the Preakness Stakes - second stop on horseracing's Triple Crown. Pre-race favorite, and Kentucky Derby winner Orb, finished a disappointing 4th.

It saw Tejay Van Gardenen win the individual time trial at the Amgen Tour of California and retain his first place standing. Tomorrow concludes the race.

Of course all day was Armed Forces Day, and many parades, observances, and activities were planned across the country.

The day ended with the NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star race.

Age Takes The Victory

Today in the Amgen Tour of California professional bicycle stage race, Jens Voigt at age 41 and the oldest rider in the field, pedalled his way to a stage victory over the 110-mile course.

At the end of the day, Teejay Van Garderen of the USA took over the lead of the race.

The race concludes on Sunday and is considered a great tuneup race for the Tour de France which starts in about 6 weeks.

Miam Heat Halfway To Title

After last night's win, the Miami Heat are halfway to winning their second consecutive NBA tile. They have won 8 of the required 16 playoff victories.

Next week, 3 other teams will be able to say the same thing - their opponent in the eastern Conference Finals and the 2 teams in the Western Conference Finals.

So far, so good, but a lot can happen.

Celebrating Our Heroes

May is quite the month for celebrating our heroes.

Today is peace officer memorial Day, and this week is Police Week.

Last week was Nurses' Week.

This week also is Hospital Week.

This Saturday is Armed Forces Day.

Next week is EMS (emergency medicine, first responders) Week.

The last Monday of the month is memorial Day, with the traditional observance on the 30th.

And we can't forget the Moms whose day was the second Sunday - heroes day in and day out.

A great month to remember our heroes - past and present.

We Can Do What We Couldn't

Technology is evolving very rapidly. Before we say something can't be done, we should qualify it with a "not yet" or "not that we know."

The new excitement over 3D printing - or "additive manufacturing" as it's called -is creating so many possibilities that weren't even thought of or discussed a short time ago.

It's now possible to create parts for printers, cars, appliances, or anything else - even humans - with a printing process (on several different types of printing media) that adds layers and layers of materials until the finished size, shape, color, and design are achieved.

From a sales standpoint, this means that we don't have to rely on companies warehousing huge amounts of parts for current or discontinued models. All that is required is the design file, and the printer can produce the part.

This can be a garage business or one done in a huge manufacturing facility - depending on the size of the items, the quantity, and the economy of producing them.

Coca-Cola Invests In Florida

Florida, the second best place in the country to do business (behind Texas) is adding more jobs, courtesy of Coca-Cola.

Coke operates the Minute Maid brand in Central Florida and employs some 6,000 people in the state.

In the coming years, they are acquiring 25,000 acres of citrus land in Central Florida and planning to add another 4,000 jobs.

What a great boost to Florida's economy and housing.
